DESCRIPTION
Immigration arrival investigation case file for Sant Ram (Case File No. 12650/007-01). Detained at Angel Island, Ram arrived to the Port of San Francisco on the S.S. Mongolia on April 22, 1913. He is interviewed by Inspectors W.N. Swasey, W.H. Clendenin, W.H. Chadney, with the assistance of Interpreter D. Dady Burjos. Ram explains his plans to travel to Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania to pursue his studies in Mechanical Engineering. According to medical reports, Ram is afflicted with Uncinariasis or “Hookworm disease,” and the board of inspectors unanimously decide to have him excluded and deported, as opposed to his brother Tulsi Ram. The file contains a photograph of Sant Ram.
