Ferdoshi was born in Sandwip, Bangladesh in 1976 and came to New York in 1989 but traveled back and forth to Bangladesh until permanently settling down in the city with her family in 1993. She talks about struggling to learn English, going to school and having to assimilate into American society.

Oral history interview with Shahajan Begum on July 5th, 2022, conducted by Subat Matin. Begum was born in Sandwip, Bangladesh and first came to Brooklyn, New York in 1989. She begins by talking about her childhood in Bangladesh where she lived with her parents, grandmother and seven siblings. Begum’s mom raised her and her siblings alone because her father was always working abroad.

Oral history interview with Mostaq Haider on July 16th, 2022, conducted by Subat Matin. Haider was born in Sandwip, Bangladesh and came to the United States in 1996. He lived in Brooklyn with his wife and three kids and in 2021 bought a house and moved to Long Island.
