Freschta discusses her constant struggle against societal gender norms and expectations during her interview. She wants her daughters to grow up in a loving environment and claim their space as independent women. She wants them to create their own definition for their identities as biracial women. She wants them to be proud of their Afghan, Colombian, and American identities.
Syed Taslim Oral History Interview

After immigrating to New York, Monowara wanted to lead a better life, and for her that meant giving her son a good education and working to provide for him.

His goal was to get an American education and college degree and he is proud that he was able to accomplish that.
Farida Matin Oral History Interview
Oral history interview with Farida Matin on August 8th, 2022, conducted by Subat Matin. Farida Matin was born in Sandwip, Bangladesh, but grew up in the city of Chittagong. She spent a lot of time in Sandwip visiting her family whenever she had off from school. Farida first immigrated to the United States in 1993 and lived with her father and uncles in a small apartment in Brooklyn.
