Dr. Potu N. Rao was born in a small village in the Guntur District in Andhra Pradesh in 1930. After completing his school and college, he went to receive his Master's degree from the Indian Agricultural Research Institute. He later moved to U.S. in 1960 to do his PhD in Cytogenetics from the University of Kentucky, Lexington.

Born in Dahood, Gujarat, India, Girish Pandya was involved in social work from a young age. He worked in Gandhi's Sevagram Ashram from 1941 to 1942. After graduating from college in Anand, India, Pandya had the opportunity to join the International Farm Youth Exchange Program in USA. He worked in Ohio and Kansas, and gave presentations at local high schools, farm bureaus and at college campuses.

Bhaskar Rao Mutyala was originally from Kakinada, Andhra Pradesh, India, and immigrated to the United States in 1962. Mutyala started his masters degree in mechanical engineering at the University of Michigan. Mutyala was joined by his wife, Sita, in 1968. After working in Michigan, Indiana, and Alabama, Mutyala and his family moved to Houston, where he worked at Lockheed for NASA.
