Frontera Fest: Marian Thambynayagam



DESCRIPTION
The eleventh episode of The Chutney Bubble Tea Half Hour is the first of the Spring 2002 semester. This show features Brooklyn-based poet/actor/performer Marian Thambynyagam, a University of Texas alumnus who, as an undergraduate was a leader in the student struggle for an Asian American Studies program. In this episode, Marian discusses her new show at Austin's annual theater festival, Frontera Fest. The performance is called "Sistah Overpass," and in the episode, Marian performs a selection for the radio audience. In the second half of the show, Marian's experiences as a Sri Lankan American artist and activist and how art can be a transformative tool for both an individual and for a community are discussed.
