Letter from Godha Ram Channon to K.R. Sabarwal
DESCRIPTION
Letter from Godha Ram Channon to K.R. Sabarwal dated February 12, 1953. Channon expresses surprise at learning that Khushwant Singh plans to move forward with publishing a book titled The Sikhs in which he accuses Ram Chandra, President of the Ghadar Party 1914-1917, of being a "British spy." Channon assumes that the letter Gobind Behari Lal sent to The March of India contesting Singh’s version of Ghadar Party history was never published. Channon informs Sabarwal that the next step is collecting signatures from ex-Ghadarites for a letter of protest to be distributed to The March of India and Indian officials.

Dear. Mr. Sabarwal:
I was in due receipt of your letter of January 19 and was surprised to learn that Mr. Khushwant Singh is going ahead with his plans. I was under the impression that the matter had been taken care of by Mrs. Pandit and the letter which our friend Mr. Gobind Behari Lal wrote to the editor of “March of India”. But I believe neither the letter was published nor Mrs. Pandit has done much to stop this nonsense. I have shown the copy of your letter to many of my friends here and they are all enraged for such a stupid thing being done by a man who does not know anything about the actual facts. We are planning to circulate a letter here among our friends to sign a protest and send copies of the same to the editor of “March of India” and to Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru and to other important members of the government. The copy of Mr. Lal’s letter is enclosed herewith and also the copy of Khushwant Singh’s letter which he wrote to Mr. A. S. Lall the Consulate General of India at New York. A copy of the draft letter will be mailed to you later. We are also planning to write to the publisher to hold the publication until they know more about the actual facts. I hope this will give you some idea of our activities here.
I have been very busy ever since my return and have not been able to write personal letters to my friends or relatives. However I have written a circular letter, a copy of which I sent to my grandchild, Tirlochan Lal, and have asked him to send a copy of the same to you and Mr. Feroz Chand.
I hope both Mr. Feroz Chand and yourself are in the best of health. With kindest regards.
Yours very sincerely,
G. R. Channon
