DESCRIPTION
The Summer/Fall 1998 issue of SAMAR (No. 10), subtitled “Exploding Culture,” explores the notion of “culture” in South Asian communities in North America—as “human beings do not live by roti alone.” The issue includes contributions from Sagheer Bin Faiz, Farhad Asghar, Tamina Davar, Parag Khandhar, Sarita Khurana, Hugo Mahabir, Gita Reddy, Chaya Bhuvaneswar, Soniah Naheed Kamal, Balaji, Brunda Moka-Dias, Balmurli Natrajan, Fauzia Afzal-Khan, Amitava Kumar, Alexyz, and Itty Abraham. Lalitha Gopalan and Aniruddha Das also moderate a discussion amongst filmmakers Vivek Bald, Indu Krishnan, Shashwati Talukdar, and Michelle “Yasmine” Valladares. The cover art for the issue is by Debi Ray Chaudhuri.
