Oral History Interview with Mohammad Zahid Hossain



DESCRIPTION
Dr. Mohammed Zahid Hossain was born in Khulna, Bangladesh and was the eldest of 8 children. Dr. Hossain studied in Khulna and then moved to Dhaka to pursue his bachelor's and master's degrees from Dhaka University in Biochemistry. After graduating, Dr. Hossain worked as a lecturer at Dhaka University before winning the prestigious East-West Center Scholarship. With this scholarship, he came to the University of Hawaii, Manoa to work on his PhD in Biochemistry in 1984.

After finishing his degree, Dr. Hossain moved to Winnipeg to work at as a university researcher. He then moved to Seattle with his family to work at the Pacific North West Research Institute. In 2000, Dr. Hossain left the research field and in 2004 took up a position with the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center. He now works in regulatory affairs. In his spare time, Dr. Hossain writes short stories and is involved in the regional Bangladeshi and Bengali cultural communities.
