Oral History Interview with R.N.S. Rao
DESCRIPTION
Dr. R.N.S. Rao's education in engineering was from Roorkee University, India, where he took his Masters degree. He came to the United States in 1959 to study for the Masters degree from the University of Connecticut and PhD. from Rutgers University. His first job in U.S. was at the Prairie-View University, Texas. Starting with the position of Associate Professor, he soon rose to the position of Dean. He was the first Indian to work at the Prairie-View University. At Prairie-View, he initiated the process of making all the Engineering Departments accredited. His specialization was Dams & irrigation, Soil mechanics and Hydraulics. He took great interest in the development of the Meenakshi temple and was involved in the Ramakrishna Mission and other religious organizations. His wife, Anasuya, also has a PhD in Education from Texas A&M.
