Oral History Interview with Misha
DESCRIPTION
Content note: description of violence, racism
Misha is a Muslim gay rights activist. He is one of the co-founders of the Bangladeshi gay magazine Roopbaan, which was later turned into an organization before most of its work came to a halt in 2016. In his oral history, Misha describes his childhood and growing up in Bangladesh. He shares how he got involved in queer community-building work as well as his migration story, including his challenges in continuing life in a new environment, finding jobs, and completing his study in the U.S. While narrating the period after moving to the U.S., Misha delves into his experiences of exploring his sexuality, complexities of finding friendships among Bangladeshis in the U.S., and his attempts at building community in the Midwest. Misha's oral history adds nuances to dominant understanding of Bangladeshi queer migration to the U.S.
