Maya McCoy's Family Bible

DESCRIPTION
This Tamil bible has belonged to Maya's maternal family across several generations. It was originally passed on from Maya's great grandmother, Sarah Thiraviam Seevaratnam. Maya's family is brought up in her interview for the SAADA Archival Creators Fellowship Project on Ilankai Tamil Feminism. She discusses how her family's Tamil Christian community endured several assassinations, particularly of dissenters within the community. This Tamil bible is therefore not only an important artifact of Maya's familial heritage but also of her family's experiences of community fragmentation as ethnic tensions worsened and free expression was stifled.
