The Broken Palmyra: The Tamil Crisis in Sri Lanka, An Inside Account
DESCRIPTION
Pages with annotations of U.S. Ambassador to Sri Lanka William Howard Wriggins' personal hard copy of The Broken Palmyra: The Tamil Crisis in Sri Lanka, An Inside Account.
The Broken Palmyra and/or its authors make a continued appearance in the interviews that encompass the oral history project on Ilankai Tamil Feminism that this artifact is a part of. We discuss this copy specifically during V. V. (Sugi) Ganeshananthan's interview, where she speaks on how the text was central to her political maturation, and how the book is very rare to find in original hard copy. She found this hard copy at a book store outside of Detroit that received the collection from former U.S. Ambassador to Sri Lanka, William Howard Wriggins upon his death. Ambassador Wriggins' copy has his handwritten annotations, which are visible in the scanned images. The scanned pages were specifically selected by V. V. Ganeshananthan to archive at the South Asian American Digital Archive.
