DESCRIPTION
Promotional poster for a lecture and discussion on Indira Gandhi and Indian grain policy by Darryl D'Monte, Associate Editor of The Times of India. Aspects of Indian grain policy discussed include the government takeover of the wholesale trade of wheat and the problems this caused and the subsequent need to import large amounts of grains to make up for shortages. The lecture was cosponsored by UC Berkeley's Indian Students Association and India Forum; it took place on May 28, 1975.

Where does the "socialism" of the Government of India originate and terminate?

The Government takeover of the wholesale trade of wheat failed miserably. Inflation, hoarding, smuggling, and chronic mal-distribution continued and continues to worsen. Why?

To partially make up for shortfalls, India will have been forced to import in excess of $1,150 million worth of foodgrains from the U.S. alone in 1974-75.
