"Benefit / Cultural Event for India" Flyer



DESCRIPTION
Promotional poster for a social justice benefit held at La Peña at 3105 Shattuck, Berkeley, CA on January 24, 1976, including a showing of two films, a slide show, and a cultural program with music and entertainment. The event was held by the Indians for a New Democracy in India Association (I.N.D.I.A.) in opposition to the Indira Gandhi's government's imposition of the Emergency in India.

One year ago on June 26, the Indian ruling class declared an OPEN DICTATORSHIP, what they called 'emergency', after decades of oppression.

Indians for a New Democracy in India Assn. (I.N.D.I.A.) opposes fascism in India and expresses solidarity with the struggle of Indian people for Social Justice by holding events like this.

Waves of Revolution (see below), recently smuggled out of India, depicts the 1974-75 struggle of the people of Bihar in eastern India who revolted against the corrupt and repressive government.

The Long Chain shows the exploitation of poor Indian laborers.
