Oral history interview with Anna Panackal, conducted by Philadelphia Fellow Sherry Thomas.
Dr. Anna Panackal is a retired scientist who lives in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. She moved to Philadelphia as a single woman in 1966. She recalls her decision to immigrate to the United States and details her early days at Temple University pursuing her Ph.D. in Chemistry. She recounts the relationships that helped her and her late husband, Abraham, build a family and a life which included facing racial tensions and navigating Indian and American cultures, at a time when very few Malayalis lived in Philadelphia.
