Oral history interview with Thomas Varghese, conducted by Philadelphia Fellow Sherry Thomas.
Thomas Varghese lives in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. He moved to Philadelphia in 1975 after marrying his late wife, Sosamma, who had the opportunity to immigrate as a nurse. He details how he worked in a coat factory before eventually owning/running a number of businesses with his longtime friend, another Malayali immigrant to Philadelphia. He talks about the struggle/reward of being a business owner, his family life, and how the Malayali community supported him during his wife’s battle with cancer.
