Letter to Attorney General Eric Holder from U.S. Senators and Representatives regarding the U.S. Department of Justice's Racial Profiling Guidance

DESCRIPTION
This letter, signed by 14 Senators and 52 Representatives, was sent to U.S. Attorney General Eric Holder urging the U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ) to revise the agency's "Guidance on Regarding the Use of Race by Federal Law Enforcement Agencies". The guidance was first issued in 2003 by DOJ's Civil Rights Division and included loopholes that permitted profiling on the basis of national origin and religion as well as for national security and border security investigations. The letter urged the DOJ to revise the guidance to prohibit profiling in these contexts. SAALT joined numerous civil and immigrant rights organizations in securing Congressional support for the letter and advocating for DOJ to reform the guidance.
