Immigration Priorities for the South Asian Community, for the Obama-Biden Transition Team

DESCRIPTION
This is a set of recommendations for the Immigration Policy Working Group of the Obama-Biden Transition Team. It was prepared by South Asian Americans Leading Together (SAALT) on December 17, 2008. The document outlines the impact of immigration on South Asians in the United States and provides detailed analysis and proposed solutions to address a range of concerns facing the South Asian community. The document also highlights four specific immigration issues that SAALT believes the new Administration can effectively address through administrative avenues and influence over legislative priorities in 2009. These issues include restoring values of due process to the immigration system, supporting immigration policies that promote family unity, supporting immigration policies that protect the rights of immigrant workers, and providing protections and access to services and benefits for immigrant women and survivors of domestic violence.
