For The First Time In Our Lives
NOVEMBER 23, 2015
Hari Bhandari spent her entire childhood in a refugee camp in Jhapa, in the eastern part of Nepal.
At the age of nineteen, Hari, her mother, her older sister, and nearly 150 others from her camp were given the opportunity to come to the US for resettlement. They made the long journey from Kathmandu to Paris, to New Jersey, and finally to St. Louis, where they would make a new home for themselves.
"We came to the USA to work,
get an education and have citizenship
for the first time in our lives."
Hari's story is just one of the thousands shared by SAADA that reflect the richness and diversity of South Asian American experiences. But, it is only with your support and with SAADA's work that stories like Hari's will be heard.
Together, over the last seven years we have built the largest publicly accessible collection of materials about South Asians in the United States.
We turn to you now for your support. Your donation today helps ensure that immigrant voices are central to the story of America’s past, present, and future.
Make your gift of $120 (or just $10/month) to do your part in supporting Hari's story and the thousands like it that make up the tapestry of South Asian America.
Thank you for your support!
