DESCRIPTION
An October 28, 1922 report from New York-based The Independent by Annette Thackwell Johnson on an encounter with Sikhs in California. Johnson had traveled to India before, and describes her surprise upon hearing rumors of "East Indian women disguised as men, working in the Californian rice fields and vineyards." She travels to Fresno, California and narrates a meeting she has with a Punjabi-Mexican family. Includes three photographs of various sites from Punjab.
