Francis Assisi, "Watumull Saga Stretches Across 50 Years of Philanthropy" (1991)



DESCRIPTION
An article from the February 1, 1991 edition of India West, written by Francis Assisi, that details the philanthropic efforts of the Watumull family, in India and the U.S. In addition to setting up hospitals, the Watumull Foundation also provided grants to American colleges and universities to purchase books about India, and set up a biennial award through the American Historical Association for the "best book about India published in the United States." Includes a photograph of Watumull Brothers Ltd. founder Jhamandas Watumull, and a photograph of Gulab and Indru Watumull posing in front of a Gandhi statue in Hawaii.
