How you can help support SAADA

When we started SAADA in 2008 we had a single hard drive and a simple website. As the digital archive has grown, we've recognized the need for our capacity to store and serve digital content to grow along with it. As the digital archive has grown, we've recognized the need for our capacity to store and serve digital content to grow along with it.This was helped tremendously when SAADA received our first grant from the Asian Giving Circle (AGC) in June 2011. AGC is a donor advised fund of The Chicago Community Trust, which brings together individuals throughout Chicago to leverage impact on issues of common concern within Asian American communities. The "capacity building" grant that we received allowed us to purchase new hardware and server space, conduct our first fundraising campaign (more on that soon!) and will help us organize a series of forums in Chicago to discuss issues of archives and archiving in the South Asian American community.
As a very tangible demonstration of how support from the Asian Giving Circle has made a difference in our efforts to provide access to digital materials take a look at this chart (below), which illustrates how the loading time of our website was affected by purchasing new server space using AGC funds. We switched to the new server in early-August.
This is just one simple way in which your support can help us in our mission to document, preserve and provide access to the history of the South Asian American community. If you believe in that mission, I hope you will consider a tax-deductible donation to SAADA today.
