Immigration File for Sapuran Singh



DESCRIPTION
Immigration arrival investigation case file for Sapuran Singh (Case File No. 12815/8-7). His name is alternatively spelled Sapurn, Spoorn, and Supuren. Sapuran Singh arrived to the Port of San Francisco on the S.S. Persia from Manila on July 29, 1913, along with several other men: Bhagat Singh, Sowan Singh, Arjan Singh, Partab Singh, Asa Singh, Soba Singh, Sham Singh, Viryam Singh, Sohn Singh, Naron Singh, and Gulam Nabi. He was detained in Angel Island, and interrogated by Inspectors R.E. Peabody, W.H. Chadney, and Interpreter D.S. Dady Burjar. During the interrogation, Sapuran Singh indicates that as a resident of Manila, he felt he was an American citizen. At the conclusion of the interrogation, Singh was taken into custody with his fellow travelers, under allegations that they would all become public charges. The file also includes another verification of landing form dated October 5, 1943, which indicates Singh’s arrival in El Paso, Texas accompanied by Ishar (Oshar) Singh and Arajan Singh. A photograph of Sapuran Singh is also included.
