"Women Fighters of Liberation Tigers" by Adele Ann
DESCRIPTION
This booklet of LTTE propaganda is brought up by V. V. ('Sugi') Ganeshananthan during her interview for the Archival Creators Fellowship project on Ilankai Tamil Feminism. She discusses how, despite not having an explicitly politicized family, she grew up surrounded by Tamil nationalist ephemera that shaped her experience as a Sri Lankan Tamil American. She discusses attending FeTNA (Federation of Tamil Sangams North America), an annual meeting of Tamil sangams (Tamil cultural/community organizations) across North America, and how one of the few memories she has of these gatherings was receiving this book documenting the supposed feminist elements of the LTTE's armed struggle. However, this memory is complicated by the fact that she cannot be certain of where she actually received the book, and yet the association of the book with FeTNA in her memory is a significant indicator of how interrelated Tamil cultural spaces were with signifiers of Tamil nationalism.
