STIPENDS
Per NEH requirements, each educator will receive a stipend of $1,300 for the Institute. You will receive the stipend after you have attended the Institute. Please note that the stipend is considered taxable income and is intended to offset or help with costs but may not cover all costs associated with your participation in the Institute.

INSTITUTE LOCATION
The Institute will take place at SAADA’s Philadelphia office, located in Center City, the heart of downtown, at 1650 Arch Street, Philadelphia, PA 19103.

TRAVEL TO PHILADELPHIA
Philadelphia offers multiple convenient transportation options. For those traveling from distant locations, Philadelphia International Airport (PHL) serves as a major gateway, with direct flights from numerous domestic and international destinations, and is a hub for American Airlines. The airport is well connected to the city center and surrounding areas through taxis, ride-sharing services, and public transportation such as the SEPTA Regional Rail Airport Line.

Amtrak's Northeast Corridor provides rail service to Philadelphia's 30th Street Station, a bustling transportation hub situated close to the city's downtown attractions. Travelers from nearby cities or regions can also rely on intercity bus services operated by Greyhound, Megabus, and other carriers, offering affordable and accessible routes to various points in and around Philadelphia.

TRAVEL IN PHILADELPHIA
Once in Philadelphia, you can navigate the city through the Southeastern Pennsylvania Transportation Authority (SEPTA), which is the primary public transportation service provider in the area. SEPTA operates an extensive system of buses, trolleys, and the Market-Frankford and Broad Street subway lines, providing convenient and cost-effective travel around the city and its neighborhoods. SEPTA’s Regional Rail connects the city center with its surrounding suburbs, making it easy to explore attractions beyond downtown.

Philadelphia also has a bike-sharing program, Indego, offering numerous bike stations throughout the city for convenient and eco-friendly travel.

HOUSING
Participants have the option to stay at the Motto by Hilton Philadelphia Rittenhouse Square—located in Center City and a few short blocks away from SAADA’s offices—in a standard queen room for $169 per night, not including tax. Averaging 175-200 sq. ft., the standard queen room is cozy and modern with an efficient footprint and an elevated sleep experience. Every room has a private bathroom with premium bath amenities and is equipped with a working surface, vanity, wardrobe, and safe. The hotel is also five blocks from Broad Street, and less than a mile from 30th Street (Amtrak) Station. LOVE Park and the Philadelphia Museum of Art are both within walking distance. Participants are also welcome to arrange their own hotel accommodations or housing via Airbnb or other third-party resources. Located steps from Suburban Station, SAADA’s office is easily reachable via SEPTA’s Regional Rail, buses, and Market-Frankford Line.

FOOD
Participants are expected to cover their meals for the duration of the Institute, per NEH policy. Affordable food options are plentiful throughout Center City. A list of staff favorites will be provided to all participants.

ADDITIONAL NOTES
In late June, Philadelphia typically experiences warm and sunny weather, characterized by pleasantly mild to moderately hot temperatures, with daytime highs ranging from the upper 70s to the lower 90s Fahrenheit.
