A couple weeks ago I reposted @through.the.fibro.fog’s post about how much a hot water bottle/heating pad means to anyone with a chronic illness. It immediately reminded me of the one time I forgot to take my heating pad with me for a sleepover. I also realized I had penned down a caption that night but had completely forgotten about it. After some digging through my phone, I finally found it!
“It’s 2:42 am and I’m in bed wide awake. I mean there’s nothing new there but what’s actually new is the fact that I’m sleeping over at my cousin’s place and I forgot to bring my heating pad along with me. I genuinely can’t remember the last time I fell asleep without it. Yes, I’m including naps as well! If you can’t understand my connection with it, let’s just say I’m in a relationship with my heating pad! Lol! The very first thing I do when I get home from anywhere is run to my heating pad. It’s last thing I think of before going to bed and the first thing I think of after waking up in the morning. Jokes aside, it really helps numb my pain and put me to sleep. In fact, I find myself waking up several times in the night when it turns off because the pain makes it hard to continue sleeping. I guess it’s safe to say I know how it feels to travel without your second half and boy, does it suck!”
Bottom line, heating pads are commonly used as a simple, cheap and effective drug-free tool for pain management. They increase blood flow to the affected area, relax muscles and decrease stiffness in the joints. What are some other tools you use to manage your pain? Picture Credit: @noorie.jpg⠀
