Factsheet: Temporary Protected Status (October 2005)
DESCRIPTION
This is a factsheet created by SAALT with assistance from the New York Immigration Coalition and the Asian American Justice Center. It provides information about Temporary Protected Status (TPS), a temporary immigration status granted by the United States to eligible nationals of designated countries (or parts thereof) where there is evidence of civil unrest, violence, or natural disasters, or where there are extraordinary, temporary conditions that make it impossible or unsafe to return. The factsheet explains who designates TPS, what TPS does, who is eligible to apply for TPS, and what people who receive TPS can do. It also provides information about past instances when the United States has granted TPS and why Pakistanis should receive TPS following the earthquake that hit parts of South Asia on October 8, 2005.
