Summer Fellowship in Community Archives FAQs

What is the time commitment for the fellowship? Can I do it alongside a part-time internship?
The fellowship requires a full-time commitment for the eight-week duration, so taking on additional internships or jobs is not possible during the fellowship period.

How will the stipend be paid?
The stipend will be paid in four installments of $1,750, at the end of each two-week period, contingent upon full participation in the fellowship.

For the six weeks that are in-person in Philadelphia, will we be working out of SAADA’s office each day?
Fellows will be asked to come into SAADA’s office 1 to 2 days a week for in-person collaboration, and can work remotely in Philadelphia the rest of the week.

My courses begin at the end of August, so I may not be able to attend the Society of American Archivists annual meeting. Can I still apply for the fellowship?
Yes, you can apply! If you have a conflict with the Society of American Archivists annual meeting, we will work with you to identify another convening to attend during the academic year.

One of the individuals writing my letter of support would like to submit it directly to SAADA. Is that possible?
Yes! If one or both individuals writing your letters of support prefer to submit their letters directly to SAADA, they can email the letter to fellowships@saada.org. Please ensure they include your name and "Letter of Support for Summer Fellowship" in the email subject line. Even if the letters are emailed directly to us, you must still complete the section of the application that requests the contact information of the individuals writing your letter of support.

What does "practicum-style" mean?
"Practicum-style" refers to a learning approach focused on hands-on, practical experiences.
