Dear Dr. Gyanee:
Thank you for your letter of October 9th. Yes, my good husband (G.J. not J.G.) passed away on August 12th after a week’s illness. He had suffered a severe heart attack on August 5th and was hospitalized for a week in an oxygen tent and with every thing known to medical science being done for him, but he did not pull through and we lost him.
Gratefully he was not ill very long, but during the week of constant medication so many powerful drugs were poured into him by mouth and by needle, that I can not help but feel that they did violence to his sensitive body. His too was a sensitive mind and heart and he had a low drug tolerance. Consequently the powerful drugs reacted powerfully on him, but not in a constructive way.
I am staying here, carrying on the work of the Watumull Foundation and caring for my home. I have my children near by. Even Lila, who is married and lives in New Delhi, came home early in July in anticipation of having a baby in October (its due any moment now) and her husband joined us after Goma’s death, so I have not been alone as yet. And because I have had several periods of being alone, during our married life, because Goma was away on long business trips, I think I have a few inner resources that will carry me through. Of course, I am lonely and life will never be the same, but I have so much to be grateful for that I can not say: “Why did this have to happen to me?”. I will carry on the work that we started together and that we have carried on together for so many years, and I shall count myself fortunate in having been married to a truly great and fine man for 37 years.
I am enclosing a reprint from the Congressional Record about him and the Watumull Foundation, which may be of some interest to you.
I hope all is going well with you in India and that your health continues to improve.
Sincerely yours,
[Signature]
