Dear Dr. Gyanee:
Your letter of March 23rd reached me the day after I returned from a very brief trip to New York to attend some population meetings in Princeton, New Jersey.
I was distressed to hear that your health has not been as good as it should have been. I trust that you took that enforced rest and that you are greatly improved by now.
We will do what we can to send you books, but I have no access to technical books, although I do have a few on farming, especially organic farming and gardening. This is something that India greatly needs. It is the irony of fate that Sir Albert Howard worked out the modern methods of composting in Indore State in India.
We expect S.K. Patil, the Minister of Food and Agriculture for India in about the third week in May. There seems to be almost a steady stream of visitors from India, mostly Government officials, passing this way. And now since the East-West Center in all probability will be established in connection with the University of Hawaii, a number of Indians are hoping to secure positions on the faculty. We, of course, don't know yet how much Congress will appropriate for this new project, but, hopefully, it will be sufficient so that the Center will be able to secure the very best people from the various countries of Asia and the Pacific, if such a Center is to be really worth-while.
With best wishes for constantly improving your health.
Sincerely yours,
Mrs. G. J. Watumll
