In the lead up to the 2020 Presidential Election, we were honored to work with Rani Bagai to create a Get Out The Vote video featuring her family's story about why it is so important for our community to engage in the political process:
Community organizers in Berkeley, also inspired by the Bagai family's story, campaigned for a street to be renamed in Kala Bagai's honor. On February 11, 2021 a section of Shattuck Avenue in downtown Berkeley was renamed Kala Bagai Way:
The xenophobia, racism, and casteism in the history of the Thind decision are still painfully pertinent today. But by working together, we are imagining a better future for the next generation of South Asian Americans.
