Photograph taken for J.C. Kaimal's student visa to come to the United States as a graduate student at the University of Washington. It had to be renewed annually, in January. On a visit in 1960 with wife Lorraine and three year old daughter Padma, the agent at the office saw him with his wife and daughter and asked Chandran if he would like to become a citizen. He said yes.

"JCK met Lindy in a meteorology class at the University of Washington and they became very good friends. Lindy and husband Mike often invited JCK to their farm in Kent. Later Lorraine would join on these visits. Mike Miskell would "give away" my mother Lorraine when they got married." --Maya Kaimal
