Mohammad Idris Oral History Interview
Oral history interview with Mohammad Idris on July 15th, 2022, conducted by Subat Matin. Born in Sandwip, Bangladesh, Idris came to the U.S. on a Business Visa in 1985. Once the U.S. government gave him amnesty to become a legal resident in the country, he saved money and brought his family to the U.S. He was finally able to help his relatives and provide his children an education.

She begins by talking about her childhood in Bangladesh where she lived with her parents, grandmother and seven siblings. Begum’s mom raised her and her siblings alone because her father was always working abroad.

Ferdoshi was born in Sandwip, Bangladesh in 1976 and came to New York in 1989 but traveled back and forth to Bangladesh until permanently settling down in the city with her family in 1993. She talks about struggling to learn English, going to school and having to assimilate into American society.
